# IG Coverage

The **Insurance Guarantee (IG)** is a **mandatory security bond** required by the **Immigration Department of Malaysia** for all employers hiring foreign workers.
It serves as a **security deposit** to protect employers and ensure the **safe repatriation of foreign workers** to their home countries when necessary.

| Coverage Period (IG) - 18 Months

## Purpose of the Insurance Guarantee (IG)

The IG functions as a financial guarantee to cover related costs if a foreign worker:
1. Violates any section under the **Malaysian Immigration Act**
2. Gets **married** or becomes **pregnant** while in Malaysia
3. **Overstays** in Malaysia after the work permit or visa expires
4. Has an employer who **fails to provide a return flight ticket** after the expiry of the permit or visa
5. Dies in Malaysia and the employer **fails to bear the cost** of repatriating the worker’s remains
6. Is **denied unpaid wages** by the employer
7. Engages in **illegal or immoral activities** such as drug abuse or prostitution
8. Participates in **unauthorised employment**, business, or any activity that threatens **Malaysia’s security or public welfare**

## How Much Is the Insurance Guarantee (IG) Premium?

The **premium amount** depends on:
* The **nationality** of the foreign worker
* The **annual premium rate**, which is **1% of the total guaranteed amount**

||| 💡 Note: The minimum premium charged is RM50 per guarantee, excluding SST and stamp duty.

| **Nationality** | **Guarantee Amount (RM)** | **IG Premium per Worker (RM)** |
| ---- |
| Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia | 250 | 3.75 |
| Bangladesh | 500 | 7.50 |
| India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal | 750 | 11.25 |
| Philippines | 1000 | 15.00 |
| Vietnam, China | 1500 | 22.50 |

## Frequently Asked Question (FAQ)

1. 1. Why is it cheaper when purchasing IG for multiple workers?
This happens because of the **minimum premium rule**.

For example, the IG premium for **one Bangladeshi worker** is **RM7.50**, but the **minimum payable amount is RM50**. If you have **six Bangladeshi workers** with the **same permit expiry date**, the total premium (RM45) is still below RM50. Hence, the minimum payable remains **RM50**. However, if there are **seven workers**, the total premium becomes RM52.50, so you need to pay **RM52.50**.

**Example Calculation:**
* RM7.50 × 6 workers (same expiry date): RM45 → *Pay minimum RM50*
* RM7.50 × 7 workers (same expiry date): RM52.50 → *Pay RM52.50*
